'Sikandar', the director AR Murugadoss's most recent release, failed at the box office. He disclosed that late call times were difficulties for him and actor Salman Khan throughout the film's production. It was a much-awaited moment when Salman Khan and AR Murugadoss joined forces for Sikandar. After a few poor box office performances, Salman supporters felt the director could help save their star's career. The film had provided Aamir Khan his first big smash in 2008 with Ghajini.

They also questioned his motivation for avoiding responsibility following the failure of "Darbar" and "Sikandar." Murugadoss stated in a recent interview with Valaipechu Voice saying, "It’s not easy to shoot with a star. Even day scenes, we have to shoot at night because he turns up on set only by 8 PM. We are used to shooting right from early mornings, but that’s not how things work there."

He further added, "If there were four kids in a scene, we would have to shoot with them at 2 AM, even if it’s the shot of them returning from school! They would become tired by that time and usually dozed off."

Salman's fans expressed their annoyance at what they perceived to be an attack on Salman Khan on Twitter (now known as X). A fan wrote, "#ARMurugadoss refuses to own his mistakes. Even though there may be some validity to his accusations against the actor, you are the project's captain as the director. You are responsible if you are unable to control your cast. I think the lead actor, the director, and the producer are all accountable."

Another said, "No doubt Salman was too bad in 'Sikandar' but script itni waahiyat aur direction itna ghatiya tha ki movie De Niro & DiCaprio ke sath bhi disaster hi hoti (No doubt that Salman was too bad in 'Sikandar' but script was so worse and direction was so pathetic that it would be a disaster with De Niro and DiCaprio). So putting all the blame on Salman alone, doesn't make any sense! Murugadoss himself struggling for a hit since last 11 years (sic)."
