Raajneeti (2010), directed by Prakash Jha, became a cult favourite because of its plot, large star cast, and popular soundtrack. Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Nana Patekar, Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee, Sarah Thompson, and Naseeruddin Shah starred in what was thought to be a modern adaptation of the Mahabharata. The film was released fifteen years ago today.
In an interview with Hindustan Times on the occasion, the filmmaker said that the second instalment is already in development and that casting and writing are in progress. He revealed, “Raajneeti (politics) ki yatra toh anvarat (constant) hai, chalti hi rehti hai! There’s always been a plan for ‘Raajneeti 2’. While there is nothing concrete in terms of casting and shooting yet, I am currently working on it.” The director also remembers working with 800 performers to shoot "Raajneeti." He added, “The film’s pre-production went on for a year. We cast 8,000 actors for an authentic crowd scene, which was quite a task."
Raajneeti 2 Movie in Works?
Four composers—the late Aadesh Shrivastava, Pritam, Shantanu Moitra, and Wayne Sharpe—composed the film's popular soundtrack, while Gulzar, Irshad Kamil, Sameer, and Swanand Kirkire wrote the lyrics. According to Prakash, Aadesh wrote the song Mora Piya Mose Bolat Naahin "much earlier" during a creative session, and it was a wonderful fit for the movie's plot. "He sang it beautifully, too," he continues.
The director explained how he assembled such a large group of well-known actors. He revealed, “The good thing about casting was that whoever we approached liked the script and came on board. They felt challenged to perform well. People say it was a commercial success."A classic struggle between opposing political families and parties was portrayed in the 2019 political thriller.
