Karnataka Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi stated on Friday that if actor Kamal Haasan does not issue an apology for his comments on the Kannada language, his films will be "banned" in the state, as determined by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC). M. Narasimhalu, the head of the KFCC, stated that distributors and exhibitors have freely chosen not to show his film unless he issues an apology.
Kamal Haasan, a South Indian celebrity, recently addressed the controversy surrounding his comment that caused a stir on social media. "Tamil gave birth to Kannada," Kamal Haasan declared during a recent event for his forthcoming movie Thug Life. The celebrity responded to the criticism by stating that he would only issue an apology if he felt he was in error.
Kamal Haasan in trouble?
On Thursday, the KFCC declared that unless Haasan apologises publicly by May 30 for his divisive comments on the Kannada language, the release of his movie Thug Life in Karnataka will not be permitted. Pro-Kannada organisations and cultural groups are outraged by actor-politician Haasan's recent declaration.
Tangadagi said, "I have written a letter. After that, the film chamber of commerce has also taken a good decision and held a press meet yesterday, saying that if he doesn't apologise in two days, his film will be banned. I extend my compliments to the Film Chamber of Commerce as the Minister for Kannada and Culture."
He told reporters in Bengaluru that anyone who has talked against Kannada, Kannadigas, and Karnataka's land and water, regardless of size, will not be allowed to continue. Haasan must apologise; otherwise, his films would be banned following the ruling of the Film Chamber of Commerce. He added, "We will not allow it if he doesn't apologise. He should apologise. Any light comment against Kannada will not be tolerated. If he doesn't apologise, we will make our decision."
