The movie starring Shahid Kapoor about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been formally put on hold. In a recent interview with Mid-Day, OMG 2 director Amit Rai affirmed this. He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the persistent structural issues in the motion picture business.

The director blamed the choice on the "cruel system" in the business in an interview with Mid-Day. Pinkvilla revealed in March 2024 that Wakaoo Films and producer Dil Raju were collaborating on a historical drama based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, with Amit serving as director and Shahid as the main character.

Director Amit Rai said in an interview with Mid-Day, "The system is so cruel. Even if you have proved your mettle with a Rs 180 crores film (OMG 2), it’s not enough. How is a director supposed to work here, under these systems of casting, production, star, and management? You live with a story for five years, and within minutes, somebody writes a five-pager, pointing out what is wrong and what is right in the film.”

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Film Called Off:

Amit acknowledged that the movie had been shelved and voiced his displeasure with the way the business operates. He said, “The system is so cruel. Even if you have proved your mettle with a 180 crore film (OMG 2), it’s not enough. How is a director supposed to work here, under these systems of casting, production, star, and management? You live with a story for five years, and within minutes, somebody writes a five-pager pointing out what is wrong and what is right with the film.”

At the moment, Shahid Kapoor is busy filming Vishal Bhardwaj's next project. This December, a big box office battle is anticipated. Despite fierce competition from Prabhas' eagerly anticipated The Raja Saab and Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar, the producers of Shahid's upcoming movie have reportedly decided to stick with the original release date. There are no intentions to alter the release date, resulting in a fierce three-way competition at the box office.
