Actress Medha Rana will play the female protagonist opposite Varun Dhawan in the eagerly anticipated military thriller Border 2, adding a new member to the already impressive cast. The film, which was directed by Anurag Singh, will have its big premiere on January 23, 2026, which is exactly when India's Republic Day weekend falls on that date.
Sharing the post, the production house captioned, “Every story finds its people. We’re happy to welcome #MedhaRana to the #Border2 family as the female lead opposite #VarunDhawan. Get ready for a monumental saga of courage and patriotism, as Border 2 arrives in cinemas on January 23, 2026.”
This new chapter, a spiritual follow-up to the landmark Border (1997), attempts to honour the valour of Indian warriors while offering new insights into duty and patriotism. The filmmakers of Border 2 are dedicated to finding a delicate balance between extensive storytelling and emotional depth.

Directed by J. P. Dutta, Border 2 is a follow-up to the popular war drama Border. The Battle of Longewala of the Indo-Pak War was retold in the 1971 movie. Major Chandpuri, played by Sunny Deol, will make a comeback in the sequel. In addition to Dosanjh, the movie will also include Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty.
Known for her roles in London Files, Friday Night Plan, Dancing on the Grave, and Ishq in the Air, Medha Rana has an Army background, which gives her portrayal more nuance and realism. Rana, a Bengaluru native who grew up in Gurgaon, started modelling at the age of sixteen and went on to feature in music videos and well-known advertising campaigns for companies like TRESemmé, Cadbury, and Lenskart.
Although the specifics of Medha Rana's role are still unknown, her casting represents a turning point in her career and a shift of course for one of India's most recognisable movie franchises.
