AB de Villiers wants this player as RCB captain in IPL 2025

Royal Challengers Bengaluru legend AB de Villiers has shared his thoughts on the next captain of the RCB team for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.

With a solid core of players, the franchise appears to be well-prepared to compete for its first IPL crown. Virat Kohli, the team's heart and soul, will lead the batting charge.

RCB has some outstanding players this season, including explosive all-rounder Liam Livingstone, steady batter Rajat Patidar, and seasoned pace combination Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood, who constitute a balanced squad.

After narrowly missing out on the playoffs last season, the squad will be hoping to turn things around in 2025. However, the biggest question that remains for the RCB team is who will be their captain.

Faf du Plessis captained the side well for three seasons, but RCB parted ways with the South African ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. While Kohli stepped away from the post in 2021, his name has been mentioned as a potential candidate because of his extensive expertise and form.

However, RCB has not yet declared their decision, leaving supporters guessing as the 2019 season approaches.

AB de Villiers chooses his pick for RCB in the IPL 2025

RCB legend, South Africa’s AB de Villiers has shared his thoughts on the RCB captaincy. De Villiers, who was the backbone of the RCB batting from 2011-2021, has voiced his support for the return of Virat Kohli as RCB captain.

De Villiers believes Kohli's current form and desire make him the best candidate to lead the squad during a pivotal period in his career.

“Friends, I think Virat Kohli is the only option [for RCB’s captaincy choice]. He is near the end of his career, more inspired than ever before. Till the time he gets the form and scores runs, we are used to watching him play match-winning innings. It’s like a swan song,” said De Villiers on his YouTube channel.

The 36-year-old veteran has already led RCB from 2013 to 2021. Kohli ranks third on the list of IPL captains with the most matches, trailing only MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. He led RCB in 143 matches, with the team winning 66 and losing 70. He has a victory percentage of 48.56.

De Villiers' backing strengthens the case for Kohli's captaincy since the two worked closely together at RCB. With Kohli eager to end his IPL career on a positive note, his leadership could be crucial to RCB's quest for the elusive crown.
