DC Captains in IPL Over the Years (2008-2025) – Updated List of Delhi Capitals Leadership

The Delhi Capitals are one of the three IPL teams that are yet to win the title. They have had some star-studded players having played for the franchise ever since the inaugural edition of the league. 

Initially, they were known as the Delhi Daredevils until 2018 and were owned by the GMR group. From the 2019 season of the Indian Premier League, they have been named as the Delhi Capitals. 

Virender Sehwag was the first ever captain of the Delhi Daredevils as he led for 52 matches and won 28 out of them, the most wins for any Delhi Daredevils skipper. 

After Sehwag, there were as many as 13 more captains used by the Capitals in the 17 seasons so far, showing that there was a great deal of chop and change, one of the reasons why they haven't won an IPL title. Delhi made it to the semifinal of the first two seasons of the IPL but then were not able to kick on and win the title. 

Gautam Gambhir was the next to captain the Daredevils as he led them in 25 matches out of which he won 12 and lost 13. Some of those matches also came during the 2018 season when Gambhir returned to the Daredevils from the Kolkata Knight Riders. Midway through the season, Gambhir dropped himself as he felt he wasn't contributing well to the team and after that it was the turn of Shreyas Iyer to lead the side. 

Shreyas Iyer led the side brilliantly, taking them all the way to the final of the IPL 2020 season where they lost to eventual champions Mumbai Indians. Iyer faced a shoulder injury in 2021 and that meant that Rishabh Pant was made the captain of the Delhi Capitals for the 2021 season. 

Pant led the team well, taking them to the playoffs and then was named the permanent captain. In 43 matches, Pant won 23 games and lost 19. With Pant now gone to the Lucknow Super Giants, the Delhi Capitals have options like KL Rahul and Axar Patel to lead the team in IPL 2025.
