The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are eyeing a new venue for their home games in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This comes as their traditional ground, Eden Gardens in Kolkata will undergo a major renovation next year. The new possible destination is the international cricket stadium being constructed in Narsingarh, Tripura.

Notably, the Narsingarh International Cricket Stadium is almost ready to host matches after the building got underway in 2017 at an estimated cost of INR 185 crore. According to Subrata Dey, secretary of the Tripura Cricket Association, the stadium would be completed by February 2025. He affirmed that either KKR or another state may use the stadium. It's interesting to note that Subrata also stated that they would end the firm's contract and hire a new one if the task wasn't finished in the allotted time.

KKR's venue discussion for IPL 2025:

News18 quoted Subarta saying, “IPL chairman Arun Kumar Dhumal recently visited the proposed international stadium at Narsingarh on the outskirts of the state capital. He said if the stadium is ready before February next year, it could be made the second home ground of KKR or some else another state will get the benefit. Since it is a golden chance to host IPL matches at the proposed stadium, we have summoned a reputed construction agency to expedite work and get it completed by February 2025. The TCA will review the construction work and if the agency fails to meet the deadline, we will terminate it and engage a new firm to complete the remaining work"

He further added, "If we could complete the stadium’s work by February next year, I am confident of hosting at least two IPL matches of KKR at Narsingarh International Cricket Stadium."

Seven years have passed since the project started, despite the stadium's 22-month setup deadline. Since he is guaranteed to host at least two of KKR's games next year, the TCA has urged the company to do the remaining work within the allotted time.
