Mumbai Indians managed to retain the core of their team before the mega auction. However, they were one of the teams with least purse entering the auction having exhausted a lot of money in retaining players. Even then, the franchise managed to secure a total of 23 players in their squad including eight overseas players.

However, according to rules, only four foreign players are allowed in the playing XI. Even in case of impact player rule, an overseas player is allowed to come in with only three foreigners in the starting XI. On that note, let us have a look at four first-choice overseas players of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025:

1. Will Jacks

Will Jacks was one of the top signings of Mumbai Indians in the auction as they secured him for Rs 5.25 crore. He is currently featuring for Pretoria Capitals in SA20 and has the ability to go all guns blazing anywhere in the batting line-up.

He turned up for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025 and in eight matches, amassed 230 runs at an average of 32.85 and a strike rate of 175.57 with a century and a fifty to his name. Overall, Jacks has an experience of playing 193 T20 matches and has mustered close to 5000 runs at a strike rate of almost 160.

2. Ryan Rickelton

Ryan Rickelton will compete for a place with Mitchell Santner in Mumbai Indians’ playing XI but the South African player should start the season. Rickelton is in excellent form at the moment and opens the innings for MI’s sister franchise MI Cape Town in SA20 as well.

He recently smashed the double century against Pakistan in Tests and has scored 684 runs in18 innings for MI Cape Town at an average of more than 40 and a strike rate of 154.75. Rickelton is likely to open with Rohit Sharma unless MI decides to pick Santner ahead of him and pick Robin Minz as the wicketkeeper. Rickelon will also take the gloves if he makes it to the playing XI and for now, looks certain to play.

3. Trent Boult

Trent Boult played 29 matches for MI in IPL 2020 and 2021 picking up a total of 38 wickets. After turning up for Rajasthan Royals in the last three editions, the left-arm seamer has returned to play for the five-time champions.

It is a kind of homecoming for him and will be one of the first names on the team sheet. Boult’s ability to strike in power play makes him the best and has accounted for 121 wickets in IPL in 104 matches so far. Even in the ongoing edition of SA20, he is playing for MI Cape Town and has picked up three wickets in as many matches so far.

4. Allah Ghazanfar

Allah Ghazanfar of Afghanistan was the most surprising pick of Mumbai Indians at the mega auction. He is the mystery spinner who will earn Rs 4.8 crore from MI at least in IPL 2025.

The youngster doesn’t have much experience of playing in franchise cricket and will be making his debut in IPL as well. He has so far played only 18 T20 matches and has picked 30 wickets. His mystery spin is certainly going to help MI in IPL 2025.
