Shimron Hetmyer

Rajasthan Royals had an unbelievable start to the 2024 season, winning as many as eight out of their first nine games. However, just on the verge of qualifying, they started to falter and their performance dipped significantly.

They lost four of their next five matches but secured a position in the qualifiers. Beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator, they proceeded to the Qualifiers 2 but then were stopped by the mighty Hyderabad.

They retained their Indian core for the mega-auctions of 2025 and had to let go of several of their key players. Coming to the auctions this year, they had a rather tiny purse of 41 crores which they used wisely, and have brought together a decent team.

Most of their Indian key players in the squad pick themselves up in the playing XI, however, it would be interesting to see which foreign players find themselves a position starting the tournament. Let us take a look at the probable 4 overseas players who might start playing XI.

1. Shimron Hetmyer

Hetmyer has been retained by the Royals at a price of Rs 11 crores. An all-Indian batting line-up of Rajasthan would be aided significantly by the presence of such a big hitter. He can finish up matches well for the team hitting some balls out of the park.

He has a good IPL record to his name too scoring 1243 runs in 72 matches with an average of 31.07 and a strike rate of 153.07. He had an okayish previous season where he was striking well but was losing his wicket easily too but the 2023 season was pretty good with a good mix of average and strike rate in the game. He is expected to have another good season here.

2. Wanindu Hasaranga

Hasaranga is an outstanding magician with a ball in his hand. He does not simply deceive the batters but can hurt his opponents with the bat too, as he has done on several occasions. He was not able to participate in the previous edition of the tournament due to an injury but is expected to play this year around and provide impeccable contributions to the team. He would be leading the spin attack in the team.

3. Jofra Archer

An absolute beast of the game with the ball, Archer is someone to be feared. He has shown the world time and time again how dangerous he can be, especially with his short balls barrage. His best season in the IPL had come for this very team and he, along with the team would be hoping for a replica of the same this year too.

He has been quite handy with the bat too towards the end of the game, providing important finishes to the games.

4. Fazalhaq Farooqi

Farooqi is another young and exciting talent from Afghanistan who can provide variation in the bowling line-up with his left-arm bowling action. He has not played many IPL games so far but managed to participate in 106 T20 games playing all around the world.

Bowling with a good economy of 6.91, he has scalped away 140 wickets in these matches. Including him in the playing XI will add variation and prepare the team to face any opponent on any ground.
