IPL 2025: Predicting RR opening pair for the season

Rajasthan had a brilliant last season, barring the last match where they lost to Hyderabad in Qualifier 2. They were placed third in the season with eight wins from 14 matches and looked in great touch.

Jos Buttler and Yashashvi Jaiswal were the two dedicated openers for the team in the last season and they have both proven to be match-winners for their team. When Buttler had to leave the season midway, Tom Kohler-Cadmore opened the matches for them for a brief period. 

Jaiswal has played 53 matches in the IPL where he has scored 1607 runs at a strike rate of 150.60. He has improved his game season after season and has been an integral part of not just the Rajasthan team but the Indian National team as well. 

He would be a guaranteed opener for the Royals in IPL 2025. However, Buttler was bought by Gujarat Titans and now Rajasthan has to look for a partner for Jaiswal.

Sanju Samson, the skipper of the team, who used to come to bat at three can be an attractive option to open the innings. He has been opening for the Indian team in T20 Internationals in the recent series where he has done a great job too. 

He is a natural opener of the game and sacrificed his position for the team last season. He can be brought back to his position and Rajasthan can be one of the teams to have the deadliest combination of openers.

Riyan Parag might be another fascinating option to see at the top of the order. Rajasthan kept their faith in him and he finally gave results for their faith in the last season. They can now try their luck with this interesting move and move back to Samson as the backup if it doesn’t. 

Another riveting option can be to try the young Vaibhav Suryavanshi at the top and give him a few games. Although, keeping the team balance in mind it would be tough to tinker with the team and the Royals might just go with Jaiswal and Samson at the top.
