Jos Buttler IPL 2025 team: Which team bought the England batter in the auction?

The dynamic English wicketkeeper-batter, Joseph Charles Buttler aka Jos Butler, has been one of the most impressive and significant players since his debut in the Indian Premier League in 2016. Initially donning the Mumbai Indians’ blue jersey, he scored 255 and 272 runs in his first two seasons, with a strike rate of 138.

Buttler’s career graph took flight in 2018, when Rajasthan Royals picked him up, and promoted him to the opening position mid-season. He accumulated 548 runs, including five back-to-back half-centuries, which proved his mettle as an opening batter. 

His next few years were splendid, especially 2022, which was majestic, where he won the Orange Cap and the Most Valuable Player award for scoring the highest runs in the tournament, which was 863 runs. His form and game have gotten bigger and better, season after season. He achieved numerous milestones in the subsequent seasons. 

In the 2024 edition, in his 100th IPL game, where he was batting against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he hit an unbeaten century and became the second player to do so in their 100th IPL match.

Later in 2024, he was released last year by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of this year’s auction. In the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah, the bidding war for him began with his former team Rajasthan Royals, and was soon joined by Lucknow Super Giants. 

But eventually, Gujarat Titans moved past everyone and acquired Jos Buttler for Rs. 15.75 crores. This marked him as the most expensive overseas player of this season. Buttler’s overall IPL career can be distinguished by his attacking mode of batting, his consistent form and performances, and his capability to perform under tense situations consolidating his reputation as one of the most reliant players in IPL history. 

With Jos by their side, which makes their top order as one of the most dominant top orders, Gujarat Titans are aiming to win their second tournament title this year.
