With Premier League powerhouse Manchester United potentially entering the IPL ownership market, sports could be on the cusp of one of the most intriguing crossover agreements in recent memory. According to reports, Avram Glazer, a co-owner of United, has made a significant bid to purchase Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), a team in the Indian Premier League.

According to reports, Manchester United, one of the most well-known football teams in the world, has paid an astounding USD 1.8 billion to acquire a share in the franchise's ownership. This share will be taken away from the current owners, Diageo India Pvt. Ltd. Glazer, one of the nine bidders, is one of the four names shortlisted to acquire the share.

RCB Ownership Reports:

The timing is remarkable. In 2025, RCB finally won their first IPL championship, a victory that not only put an end to years of frustration but also raised the team's worth to unprecedented levels. Glazer is one of the most prominent figures in an ownership battle that is currently garnering interest from far outside of India after reportedly submitting an offer through his investment firm, Lancer Capital totaling 1.8 billion dollars (about Rs 16,300 crore).

However, this is not the first time the Manchester club has shown interest in a cricket squad. One of the eight teams in the prestigious 20-over tournament in the neighbouring country is Islamabad United, which they already own and run in the Pakistan Super League tournament. This does suggest that United's owners are eager to diversify their business beyond European football to include cricket in Asia.

With a remarkable net worth of about five million euros, Manchester United is reportedly the second-most valuable club, according to a new survey. Glazer's family has a net worth of USD 10 billion, making him wealthier than the club.
