Australia batter Travis Head has confirmed his views on the mushrooming franchise cricket leagues. He has stated that he will not be playing in any other franchise T20 leagues apart from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Australia’s own Big Bash League (BBL).
Travis Head has reiterated his position on franchise cricket, emphasizing his commitment to representing his national team and maintaining a balanced schedule.
Head claimed that he will not play in franchise cricket other than the IPL and Big Bash League. He stressed rest and Test cricket, recognizing the difficulty of juggling numerous tournaments such as Major League Cricket (MLC) or The Hundred.
Head appreciates the opportunity to relax during the current tour and remains committed to contributing to Test cricket as his prime priority.
“I won’t play franchise cricket other than IPL. Big Bash will be the third team I play for, so I won’t play anything other than that at this stage, and I think that allows me to have that time off. It’s pretty hard to have those eight days off and then play MLC in a couple of months’ time or the Hundred. So, I understand that, and I’m very lucky to have those seven days off on this tour, Test cricket is the most important thing at the moment for us as a group. So, I want to put as much effort as I can into that,” Head said to the reporters ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka.
Travis Head was one of the best players in IPL 2024, where he turned out for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He opened the innings for SRH and amassed 567 runs in 15 matches, including a scintillating century and four fifties as well. He has been retained by the SRH franchise for the IPL 2025 tournament.
In the BBL, Head played for Adelaide Strikers but couldn’t play in the recent edition as it clashed with the five-Test series against India. He has played in Major League Cricket for Washington Freedom alongside Steve Smith.
