"I have so much..." Jonita Gandhi on opening Dua Lipa Mumbai concert

Singer Jonita Gandhi is "very excited" to be opening for English singer Dua Lipa, one of her favourite performers, when she performs in Mumbai on November 30. Before Lipa takes the stage, Gandhi, who is excited to perform her own music, tells about how much she loves the pop diva. She exclaims, going on, "I adore her music, New Rules (2017) by Dua Lipa was the first song I ever heard, and it had the biggest influence on me."

Renowned for hits including Gilehriyaan (Dangal, 2016), What Jhumka? (Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, 2023) and Soni Soni (Ishq Vishk Rebound), the 34-year-old says: "I'm going to perform as many of my songs as I can, even though I haven't started planning my setlist. I have a lot planned."

With performances this year by artists like Bryan Adams, Alan Walker, and Lipa, there is a tangible sense of excitement surrounding the arrival of international performers in India. When asked if fans overseas are as enthusiastic about Indian performers, the singer—who recently gave performances in Colombo and the US—answers emphatically, "Yes. It increases the excitement of your favourite artists coming to your city to perform when people live far away from them."

Gandhi talks about what she calls "an exciting phase" in her music career and her much-awaited acting debut, which was originally scheduled for 2021. She concludes by saying, "At this time, no films are in the works, but I'm willing to consider acting roles in the near future."

Just like Jonita, Indian fans are eagerly waiting for the international pop sensation to arrive in India. Dua Lipa's recent track 'Dance The Night' from the superhit Barbie movie is still a favourite amongst Indian audiences. Not only this, the fans are excited to see the famous Bollywood singer Jonita Gandhi perform as an opening act for Dua Lipa.
