The Indian team is in their final leg of preparation for the ICC ODI World Cup 2027, and the team management is testing out players who they think are more or less sure of playing in the tournament. The ICC World Cup 2027 will be played in October-November next year and will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
The Indian team will have a handful of ODIs left for themselves, with five games against New Zealand and a proposed series against South Africa. Therefore, we have shortlisted three Indian players who are not sure of a spot in the squad for the ODI World Cup 2027.

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad
India will be looking out for a backup top-order batter for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, and Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to be in one of the options. However, he will be competing for a spot with Yashasvi Jaiswal as a backup opener or in the top order. The positive for Gaikwad is that he can play in the middle order as well. But given that Jaiswal is with the Indian team as backup, and Gaikwad hasn’t gotten the chances he should, it is unlikely the Maharashtra batter will get the nod for the ODI World Cup 2027.
2. Arshdeep Singh
The Indian pace attack is more or less confirmed, barring any injury. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna are likely to be finalised, with Harshit Rana and Gurnoor Brar as backup. Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy are expected to be the pace all-rounders. This means there is unlikely to be any place in India for Arshdeep Singh in the squad. The only positive for him is that he brings a left-arm angle to the table, but given that he has not been given any chance in ODIs, Arshdeep might not go to Africa for the ODI World Cup 2027.
1. Ravindra Jadeja
India will likely play the majority of their ODI World Cup 2027 games in South Africa and a handful in Zimbabwe and Namibia. Hence, expect only 2-3 spin options to be included in the Indian squad for the ICC event. One of those spinners will be Kuldeep Yadav, and we expect Washington Sundar to be picked as well. This leaves Ravindra Jadeja in the lurch, given that he has picked only 12 wickets in 14 ODIs in 2025 and 2026. His value as a spinner has diminished a lot, and with Gautam Gambhir preferring spin all-rounders, expect Jadeja to miss out on the 2027 World Cup flight.
