I can assure you that the BCCI is going to get back both trophies very soon: Devajit Saikia

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia has assured Indian cricketing fans that both the Asia Cup trophies – Men’s and Women’s – will be back with the board very soon.

Speaking exclusively to Times Now, Saikia has expressed hope that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will return the trophies to the BCCI very soon. Notably, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women’s team declined to receive the trophy during the post-match presentation ceremony from ACC president and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi.

“If someone is adamant not to solve the problem, then it is their call, not our call. We can only suggest, but we cannot implement it; we cannot enforce it. So that is not our role, but I can assure you….whole country knows that BCCI is going to get back both trophies very soon,” Saikia said to Times Now.

Further, Saikia stressed that winning the tournament was more important than the ceremony itself, adding that the controversy did not originate from the Indian side. Notably, the Indian women’s team and the BCCI paid tribute to the Pahalgam terror victims by not collecting the award from Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister.

“I cannot give you a timeline but I’m saying you that the trophy will be with us very soon. Both the trophies, not only yesterday’s trophy. The other trophy, which was not with us for more than one year, both the trophies will come to the cupboards of BCCI headquarters in Bombay very soon and the thing is very clear that we are the champions,” Saikia added.

It’s important to note that the Indian men’s team also declined to collect the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC President after winning the final over Pakistan. Interestingly, Naqvi has refused to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to the BCCI until now.
