Afghanistan will host India for an international series for the very first time. The three-match T20I series will be played from September 13 onwards, and all the games will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Afghanistan had recently come to India for one Test and three ODI matches, losing all the games to Men in Blue. On the other hand, the Indian squad has been announced for the three T20I series, and there are some regular names and some making their comeback. However, there will be a few players who might not get a chance to play any matches.
Here are the 3 Indian players who might not get a chance in the XI in AFG vs IND T20Is:
3. Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi has been named in India’s squad as the wrist-spinner returned to India colours on the UK T20I tour. However, he conceded 60 runs in one T20I against England and managed only three wickets in three games in Zimbabwe. Bishnoi will have competition from Washington Sundar, Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy in the XI, who are all better spinners than him.
2. Axar Patel
Axar Patel might be the senior spinner in the India T20I squad, but he picked only five wickets in 7 T20Is on the UK tour and didn’t play in Zimbabwe. Axar has never been the bowler to take a fifer or four wickets in an innings, but his form with the bat and ball has dipped in recent times. This might make Sundar, or Bishnoi, a better option for Shreyas Iyer and co. If India plays three spinners against Afghanistan.
1. Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson was a controversial drop from the Zimbabwe T20Is, but he is back in the Indian squad for the Afghanistan T20Is and the Asian Games 2026. Samson had a serious dip in form after winning the Player of the Tournament award in the T20 World Cup 2026. He had a decent time in IPL 2026, scoring two centuries, but then made two ducks in two games against Ireland. He was then dropped during England T20Is and rested for the Zimbabwe game. It remains to be seen if Samson will play with Ishan Kishan’s presence in the India squad.
