CPL 2024: David Wiese & Khary Pierre's Relay Catch Leaves Fans in Awe

Guyana Amazon Warriors secured the top spot after defeating St Lucia Kings in the latest CPL 2024 match. Imran Tahir, the captain of the Warriors, won the toss and chose to bat first in his native Guyana. Although it was anticipated that the wicket would be difficult to gain runs on easily during the day, the Warriors showed courage and confidence, breaking the 200 barrier to end on 207/7 from their 20 overs. 

Despite the losses, Guyana reached 134/2 by the 14th over thanks to a solid 85-run combination between Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer. Keemo Paul left after the Saint Lucia players put in a strong fielding effort, unable to make much of an impact.

Ahmad delivered a fuller delivery on the leg stump, angling it away, on the third ball of the eighteenth over. Paul took a step backwards, bent down to perform a large slog sweep, and succeeded in slamming it in the direction of the cow corner. The ball was not hit accurately; instead, it lingered close to long-on. 

At long-on, David Wiese leapt over the ropes and rushed to his right, inches from the boundary, flicking the ball back to deep mid-wicket. To complete the catch, Khary Pierre dashed from deep mid-wicket. The third umpire verified the dismissal while the on-field umpires took a moment to confirm its legitimacy.

With a game remaining, the Warriors, who now have 14 points, took back the top spot in the rankings. In the last game of the entire season, they will meet the Trinbago Knight Riders tomorrow, which will decide the final rankings and upcoming playoff matchups.
