On October 1 because of a floodlight malfunction at the stadium during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 Eliminator was determined via the DLS system. The league released a statement on October 3 explaining why the game was restarted after the previously announced deadline.
The first round of this year's championship saw the Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Royals square battle in Guyana. One of the lighting towers went out in the first innings, with TKR at 168-5 in 19.1 overs.
The delay, which ultimately lasted for two hours, caused the match to be stopped. When play restarted, the game had been reduced to five overs, with the Royals having to score sixty runs in order to win. They got over the line thanks to a 17-ball 50 from David Miller, going into Qualifier 2 and knocking TKR out of the competition.
CPL 2024 clarifies the air:
Fans discovered the event had resumed at 11:01 p.m. local time, even though the match broadcast had stated a cut-off time of 10:52 p.m., which sparked outrage online. If there had been an abandonment, TKR would have advanced to Qualifier 2 because of their superior point total. TKR and West Indies star Andre Russell also felt ill done by, as he shared an Instagram story on Wednesday claiming he felt "robbed" and that the scenario was "pure f***ry".
The CPL released a statement on Thursday in an effort to explain the seeming discrepancy in the cutoff times. The league stated in it that although the broadcasters had been informed of the cut-off time of 10.52 p.m., it had now been adjusted to 11.01 p.m. to accommodate for the time allotted for the change of innings, which had not been factored into the original computations.

The three malfunctioning towers had their power restored at 10.51 p.m., according to the league, and they were given enough time to reach their maximum brightness before the game resumed at 11.01 p.m. Because of the significance of the match, both teams had also been given the choice to play in a partial light. Barbados Royals were prepared to play on, but TKR had declined, citing player safety concerns, which captain Kieron Pollard reaffirmed in remarks made following the game.
