The top of the table The Barbados Royals were soundly defeated by 7 wickets in a match they would rather forget, scoring 96/9. The St Lucia Kings put on a swaggering show to guarantee their place in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) playoffs for 2024.
After winning the toss, the Royals decided to bat first, but Alzarri Joseph quickly made them regret that choice as he launched Quinton de Kock's bails skyward with a mouthwatering in-ducker that ignited the problems from which the Royals were never able to recover.
Kings stunning entry in CPL 2024 play-offs:
The Kings' Joseph and Roston Chase both made great plays with the ball in hand, collecting seven wickets apiece. The Royals just made it through their overs, mostly because of some bottom-order resistance from Keshav Maharaj and Maheesh Theekshana.
Jason Holder caught and bowled Johnson Charles as the Kings proceeded to chase the total and earn the victory necessary to guarantee their spot in the tournament's latter phases. Though the Kings never appeared to be in danger, Faf du Plessis looked good for his 26 off 19 balls before trying to open the shoulders to Maharaj and getting stumped by de Kock.
With 37 balls left, Roston Chase and Tim Seifert scored 39 and 21, respectively, to take the lead. After taking four wickets earlier in the game to establish the foundation, Alzarri Joseph was rightfully named Player of the Match.
The Royals, who have appeared mighty for the majority of the competition so far, had a bad day. With the 2024 tournament nearing its conclusion and a few teams appearing to be at their best at the ideal moment, they'll need to get back up.
