In the 30th and last regular match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2024) this season, the Trinbago Knight Riders handed the defending champion Guyana Amazon Warriors a crushing 74-run loss at home in Providence. The Saint Lucia Kings will play the Amazon Warriors in Qualifier 1 on October 2 despite their defeat, which puts them at the top of the table. On October 1, the Knight Riders will play Barbados in the Eliminator game.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Imran Tahir, the Warriors captain, bowled Shaqkere Parris with a brilliant googly that utterly confused the batter and skidded into the stumps, giving the Knight Riders innings a rough start. Tahir wheeled away in triumph, but on what proved to be a brutal night, that would be the last thing his side would have to celebrate for some time.

Pooran's jaw-dropping play in CPL 2024:

For the Knight Riders, Nicholas Pooran scored a magnificent century off just 59 balls, including nine fours and eight sixes, to record one of the greatest performances in CPL history. With 34 runs off of 26 balls, Jason Roy performed the pivotal role and marvelled as Pooran destroyed the Warriors' excellent bowling lineup around the entire Providence stadium.

Once Shai Hope caught Player of the Match Pooran behind the bowling of Shamar Joseph to end the 16th over, Knight Riders captain Kieron Pollard (19 off 13) and Keacy Carty (27 off 13) made sure the visitors made it past 200 and set a difficult total of 211/5 for the Warriors to chase.

It appeared as though the 2023 CPL winners would suffer a crushing 100+ run loss when Moeen Ali fell with the Warriors score at 88-8, but some late-order fight from Gudakesh Motie and Captain Tahir saw them to a final total of 137 all out. However, after appearing so strong in their previous four games, the Warriors were humiliated by 74 runs, and the Knight Riders' confidence was much boosted ahead of their tournament run-in next week.
