After defeating India by 10 wickets in the second Test match in Adelaide, Australia captain Pat Cummins officially puts an end to the Josh Hazlewood speculations. The 31-year-old pacer made a remarkable return following the catastrophic outcome at Perth, leading his team to a decisive victory over the Indians.
The hosts had beaten the visitors in every way following a heartbreaking 295-run defeat in Perth, and on the third day of the pink-ball Test, they managed to chase down a meager 19-run goal. Consequently, the baggy greens have continued to win the day/night Tests with a perfect record.
Nevertheless, one event still plagued the Australian team after the victory. The Australians were very dominant, bowling the Indians out for 180 and 175 in both innings, while their hitters, highlighted by Travis Head's century in the first innings, outperformed the Indians to tie the series 1-1 by Day 3.
Pat Cummins breaks silence:
For those who were unaware, there was a lot of discussion about possible internal issues between Josh Hazlewood and Cummins, who was reportedly absent because of a side strain injury. During a press conference, Hazlewood appeared to express dissatisfaction with the batters' lack of runs in the thrashing in Perth. Rumors of a divide in the Australian locker room were stoked by this. Furthermore, it was assumed that Hazlewood's comments were the reason he was excluded from the Pink Ball Test.
Nevertheless, Australia's outstanding performance in the Adelaide Test was unaffected by these rumors, according to captain Pat Cummins. In addition, the pacer was instrumental in the game and took his 13th five-wicket haul to guarantee his team's easy victory. In a post-match interview following the game, Cummins also made sure to address the circulating rumors about Hazelwood.
He said, "Great week, knew we were far away from the team we want to be in Perth. This is back to how we want to play, There was never that much noise within the group, we know what a good unit we are."
