During India's training session on Friday, January 9, in Vadodara, former captain Virat Kohli was seen amusingly imitating the running style of left-arm bowler Arshdeep Singh. The humorous incident took place before the start of India's three-match ODI series against New Zealand on January 11.
Virat Kohli was especially focused on Arshdeep Singh, imitating the left-arm pacer's running style in a lighthearted manner that made people laugh and smile. In spite of the seriousness of international cricket, Kohli still enjoys keeping the team atmosphere alive and fostering team togetherness before the high-stakes series, as evidenced by his eccentric antics that showcased his lighter side off the field.

The upbeat spirit in the Indian camp was reflected in the moment's rapid attention. After putting on strong performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025–2026, both Kohli and Arshdeep enter the series in strong condition. Kohli previously posted a number of pictures from the Vadodara training session that showed him with KL Rahul, Harshit Rana, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. For the first time in more than two years, Kohli shared a preview of his on-field preparations.
During the competition, Kohli participated in two games and amassed 208 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 128.39 and an average of 104. His most notable performance was a superb 131 off 101 balls against Andhra Pradesh, although he also scored a fifty and a spectacular century.
Arshdeep had a successful VHT campaign as well, playing two games for Punjab. The left-arm bowler maintained an economy rate of less than 4 while taking seven wickets at an outstanding average of 8.57. He returned outstanding figures of 5/34 against Sikkim, which was his finest performance.
Kohli has already made a name for himself as one of the all-time great batters in ODIs. At a remarkable average of 58.46, he has amassed 14,557 runs in 308 games, the second-most in the format, including 76 fifties and 53 hundreds. With 1,657 runs in 33 ODIs against New Zealand, Kohli is poised to overtake the Black Caps as India's top run scorer.
