Kaushal Silva, a former batsman for Sri Lanka, has been named head coach of the Hong Kong men's cricket team. About a month and a half before the 2025 Asia Cup, the appointment was made. Silva brings with him seven years of extensive experience playing at the highest level, during which he scored three hundreds while representing Sri Lanka in 39 Test matches. For their next duties, Cricket Hong Kong was thrilled to bring on a seasoned player.

Silva joins his new position with a wealth of expertise. He played 39 Test matches for Sri Lanka from 2011 to 2018, solidifying his reputation as a committed wicketkeeper-opener. He scored 13,932 runs in 209 games during his first-class career, including three international ones and 41 hundreds. Silva has been coaching in Australia, England, and Sri Lanka since he retired in 2019. This is his first time serving as an international team's head coach.

Batter Kaushal Silva's New Venture:

The chairperson of Cricket Hong Kong, China, Burji Shroff, expressed confidence in Silva's hiring, stating that Kaushal's commitment to fostering and developing talent is consistent with their goals for Hong Kong cricket's future. They think the squad can improve its competitive standing and spread awareness of the sport in the community under his direction.

The board chairperson, Burji Shroff, stated, "Kaushal's dedication to nurturing and developing talent resonates with our vision for the future of cricket in Hong Kong. We believe that under his guidance, we can not only elevate our competitive standing but also promote the sport within our community."

Silva said, My focus will be on instilling a strong work ethic and a winning mentality amongst the senior squad and working to identify and nurture fresh talent for continued growth."

In the multinational tournament, Hong Kong is grouped with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The Asian squad will undoubtedly try to upset the teams in their group to advance to the event, where the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 4s stages, with the former Sri Lanka cricket player leading coaching duties.
