With yet another duck, Saim Ayub's terrible Asia Cup 2025 run appeared to be far from over. In Dubai, the Pakistani opener continued his bad play by falling cheaply against the United Arab Emirates. He had been dismissed for duck in his previous two games against India and Man, respectively, making this his third consecutive duck in the competition. Once more, Pakistan's aspirations of getting off to a fast start were dashed early.

When a short, wide offering came over him, the left-handed hitter slashed hard. Muhammad Rohid was at third man when the ball struck the outer edge of the willow and flew directly into his hands. Ayub had to walk back after failing once more, even though the ball could not take wickets.

Ayub was enticed to take a chance when Junaid Siddique moved in from over the wicket and bowled a short, wide delivery outside off on the fifth ball of the first over. Known for his aggressive tendencies, the left-hander went fishing at it in an attempt to smash the ball past the defender at deep third.

He slashed hard instead of landing on top of the bounce, but the connection was not very impressive. Without the elevation needed to clear the boundary, the ball left the bat flat. The fielder had an easy opportunity because it moved swiftly but stayed at chest height. At deep third, Muhammad Rohid followed the ball early, assessed its trajectory, and calmly moved into position. He positioned himself just beneath the ball and made the catch calmly and cleanly.

In his subsequent over, Siddique also got rid of Sahibzada Farhan, Ayub's opening partner (5 off 12), leaving Pakistan at 9/2 after 2.4 overs. Farhan had little space because the ball was delivered on a hard length. Pulling his shot in the air, he raised his front leg slightly. In an attempt to send Farhan back to the pavilion, Muhammad Zohaib, with a deep square leg, latched onto a juggling attempt.
