Phil Simmons, the head coach of Bangladesh, who accompanied the team on their current tour of Sri Lanka, will be spending a short time in the UK. He is anticipated to return to the island nation on July 7 after visiting London to see physicians about his health issue.
Bangladesh has been struggling since it drew the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle. They were defeated by 78 runs and an innings in the Colombo Test. It was believed that they would return in the ODIs. They chased 245 to win the first ODI after bowling Sri Lanka out for 244 and being 100/1 after 16.2 overs. But then the squad suddenly lost eight wickets in 25 runs, and the contest was over. The Tigers lost by 77 runs after being bowled out for 167.
Coach Phil Simmons Health Emergency:
Before the formal announcement, there were rumours that Simmons had been invited to meet with Aminul Islam, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, to discuss the coaching staff's performance. That did not, however, prove to be true. Team officials claim that Simmons informed management about his trip well in advance, and since he would be returning in three days, the decision was accepted.

Cricbuzz cited Bangladesh manager Nafees Iqbal as stating, "Phil Simmons is going to tour for two days for personal reasons. He had a doctor's appointment in February, but he missed that due to the Champions Trophy. Now the appointments with physicians cannot be changed. He tried to change it (appointment), but somehow he could not do that."
On Saturday, July 5, they will play Sri Lanka in the second One-Day International at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. At 2:30 pm (IST), the game is scheduled to start. After the 50-over format concludes, the two teams will play a three-match T20I series to complete the all-format assignment. Before the action shifts to 20-over matches, the team captained by Mehidy Hasan Miraz will be eager to make a return in the current 50-over series.
