According to a Sen Cricket report, Cricket Australia (CA) is looking into the idea of holding a Big Bash League (BBL) game in India the following season, with Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium surfacing as a possible venue. Although the plan is still in its early stages, a top office-bearer for the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) stated that the first negotiations have taken place.

Earlier this month, a delegation from Cricket Australia (CA) met with TNCA officials to discuss the potential of hosting the BBL opener at Chepauk in December. Two BBL representatives and one CA functionary, comprising Head of Competition Development and Strategy Margot Harley and Head of Business Operations Phil Rigby, made up the CA delegation.

An unnamed official source revealed, "They have heard good things about the MA Chidambaram Stadium and conducted a recce. However, we are not the only venue under consideration. TNCA cannot commit unless we receive a directive from the BCCI. It is the parent body that will decide whether to green-light the proposal."

BBL in India?

In the meantime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the target of the TNCA. A final judgement is anticipated to be made when the board evaluates the entire scenario, as there has been no indication of a clearance from the BCCI thus far. As of February 17, the BCCI has not replied to the TNCA.

The action is thought to be a component of CA's larger business plan as it gets ready to sell at least two of the eight BBL franchises. In the biggest cricket market in the world, hosting a match in India is thought to be a good method to build relationships and draw in investors.

Based on time zone alignment and the WACA officials' alleged willingness to interact with Indian investors, the report determined that the Perth Scorchers would be a reasonable choice to play in the planned fixture. The concept is still experimental, though, and would need the BCCI's and broadcasters' approval among other stakeholders.
