Scotland is scheduled to play the two-time T20 World Cup champions, West Indies, in their opening match at the storied Eden Gardens in Kolkata following a spectacular debut at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Scotland eliminated the West Indies before the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup Super 12 stage with an incredible 42-run victory, so they have a score to settle. West Indies would be looking to exact revenge and get off to a strong start to their tournament campaign, as that was the only T20I encounter between the two teams.

The Scottish side has won over the West Indies in this format, but that doesn’t mean they are favourites to start with. As usual, the West Indies appears to be a champion team on paper and will be fierce against Scotland, which qualified for this World Cup after Bangladesh boycotted it due to security concerns. Expect the win probability meter to favour the Caribbean side.

Eden Gardens Pitch Report:

Eden Gardens offers a balanced surface, with true bounce aiding stroke play. Early on, batters may rely on the pitch, but as the game goes on, spinners frequently gain ground. Under the lights, seamers may get swing, particularly in the opening overs. In T20 cricket, a par score is typically between 165 and 175 runs. Outfield is incredibly fast, with excellent placement and timing. In the latter overs, slower balls and cutters can be useful.

Kolkata Weather Forecast:

The weather in Kolkata is warm and muggy, with highs of 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.  Although there is a risk of cloud cover, the likelihood of rain is still low to moderate. Teams batting second are likely to benefit from the dew factor in the twilight time. Players' fitness may be tested by humidity, particularly for fast bowlers. Generally, calm winds are unlikely to have a major impact on play. Although short showers cannot be ruled out, no significant disruptions are anticipated.
