The renowned bowler Shivam Shukla of Madhya Pradesh was selected by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to replace Rovman Powell, who chose not to play in the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). On May 25, Shivam will participate in KKR's season-ending game.
The West Indian all-rounder was recovering from surgery and suffering from an injury, which prevented him from playing the rest of the season, according to the team's statement. The team won't be significantly impacted, though, given their chances of winning the IPL again were dashed on Saturday when their match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru was rained out, formally ending any slim aspirations they had of qualifying for the playoffs. Since both teams shared a point due to the washout, KKR, who now have 12 points from 13 games and are sixth in the standings, was mathematically eliminated.

An up-and-coming cricket player from Madhya Pradesh is Shivam Shukla. He was an important player in the first Madhya Pradesh T20 League, taking 10 wickets, including five, and was a top wicket-taker. The spinner made an impression with his bowling in the 2024–25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, collecting eight wickets in eight games for the state, including a notable four-wicket haul against Saurashtra. In T20 cricket, the 29-year-old has an economy of 6.30 and a BBM of 4/29.
The former West Indies T20 captain, Rovman Powell, chose to withdraw from the competition due to health concerns. When the league was put on hold, he returned home, and he hasn't come back since. He had cost ₹1.5 crore to sign with KKR. The Knight Riders' campaign hasn't been great, unfortunately. Even with Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Rinku Singh on the team, Ajinkya Rahane's team had trouble gaining traction during the competition. The loss of key players who were essential to their 2024 championship push greatly damaged their campaign.
