On February 22, 2026, the West Indies will play fierce Zimbabwe in their inaugural Super 8 match at Mumbai's legendary Wankhede Stadium. After winning all four of their group games, including one against England, the West Indies advanced to the Super 8. They have so far seemed like a cohesive team under Darren Sammy's tutelage, and they are positioning themselves as a dark horse to win the championship for the third time after doing it twice in 2012 and 2016.
However, after crushing hosts Sri Lanka and powerful Australia in the group, Zimbabwe shocked many cricket commentators by advancing to the next round. Additionally, they have won three of their four group matches—one of which was rained out—and are undefeated thus far in the competition.

Wankhede Stadium Pitch Report:
The 2026 T20 World Cup has already seen six matches at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. The first-inning score has been approximately 160 on average. Teams that bat first have won three of the games, and chasing teams have won twice. Compared to the Indian Premier League, the pitches have not been as conducive to batting success. The batsmen and bowlers should give themselves some time before attempting the big strokes because of anything in it.
