Jos Buttler, the white-ball captain of England, is still unfit. His recovery may take a little longer because he is not prepared to play on Wednesday, September 4, in Lancashire's T20 Blast quarterfinal match against Sussex. The right-handed batter's last game was a loss to India in the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.

Due to a calf injury, he was unable to participate in The Hundred for the Manchester Originals. In September, he was included in the white-ball squad for the home series against Australia.

Jos Buttler's road to recovery becomes a hindrance for T20I:

Dale Benkenstein, the head coach of Lancashire, stated on BBC Radio that Buttler would not play in the quarterfinal. He stated, "While he was healing, Jos Buttler regrettably made another adjustment. Not only is he out of our games, but I doubt he'll be able to participate in international competitions either. He expressed excitement about our upcoming matchups."

By September 8, England will make a decision regarding his involvement. Buttler's workload may be slightly reduced because he is not anticipated to hold wickets against Australia. Beginning on September 11, England and Australia will play a white-ball series. In the meanwhile, England does not currently have an official vice-captain for the white-ball formats. Saam Curran and Phil Salt are the two candidates to captain the team in case Buttler is unable to recuperate.

In the IPL 2024, Sam Curran captained the Punjab Kings in place of Shikhar Dhawan. Conversely, in The Hundred 2024, Phil Salt led the Manchester Originals as captain while Buttler was away.
