Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) big auction, which will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25, former India and Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is making headlines once more. According to a widely shared social media post, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is honouring Dhoni with a rupee seven coin!

The Department of Economic Affairs has not made any such statements, according to a social media statement issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), which also refuted the fake news. The tweet included a list of important government agencies, including the Ministry of Finance, DD News, and All India Radio News to further emphasise the explanation. The tweet read, “The claim made in the image is #fake. The Department of Economic Affairs has made NO such announcement."

MS Dhoni Coin Rumour Exposed:

According to the widely shared image on the social networking site, "X," Dhoni's achievements in Indian cricket would be honoured by the coin. Even though it was untrue, the rumour went viral, and many people shared the picture on social media. Such incidents underscore the perils of disseminating unconfirmed information, which has the potential to deceive and confuse the public.

For INR 4 crore, the Chennai Super Kings exploited the rule to acquire MS Dhoni for the next IPL season. The Ranchi-born cricket player participated in 14 matches in 2024 and amassed 161 runs at an incredible strike rate of 220.54. Despite his outstanding performance in the latter part of an innings, CSK was ultimately unable to make it to the playoffs.

The five-time champions have kept Dhoni, Shivam Dube, Matheesha Pathirana, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja for INR 18 crore each, ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. They will be seeking to assemble a squad around these individuals in the forthcoming mega-auction, planned to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.
