Former England Keeper James Foster to Join CSK in IPL 2026 as Fielding Coach

Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, the five-time champion Chennai Super Kings will recruit former England wicketkeeper-batter James Foster as their fielding coach, bolstering their backroom staff under head coach Stephen Fleming. From 2001 to 2009, the 45-year-old played for England in seven Test matches, eleven One-Day Internationals, and five Twenty20 Internationals. He is anticipated to assume his new position later this month. Foster has worked with teams including the Desert Vipers, Northern Superchargers, and Peshawar Zalmi, in addition to serving as the fielding coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Cricbuzz cited Super Kings franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan, saying, "We have been looking for a fielding coach. I am hopeful he will join us."  In addition to head coach Stephen Fleming, Mike Hussey is the batting coach for CSK, Eric Simons is the bowling coach, Sridharan Sriram is the assistant bowling coach, and Rajiv Kumar is the fielding coach. The team manager is Russell Radhakrishnan.

The transfer follows a dismal IPL 2025 season in which CSK managed only four victories in 14 games and finished at the bottom of the points table. At its high-performance facility in Chennai, the team has already started its preseason camp, where a number of Indian players are training. MS Dhoni, a seasoned wicketkeeper, is one of the players at the camp; players on international duty are anticipated to arrive later.
