In an attempt to help Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma get back to his best in the current Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL), former England captain Michael Vaughan made a funny proposal. The veteran batsman has had difficulty scoring in MI's opening two games against the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Vaughan remarked that if Rohit visualizes himself wearing the India jersey instead of his IPL team's, he might rediscover his batting stroke. The MI captain has been having trouble finding his rhythm again; most recently, he was unable to contribute to the team's defeat on March 29 against the Gujarat Titans (GT). In Vaughan's opinion, Rohit's return as the team's top hitter is crucial to the Mumbai Indians' chances of making the playoffs this year.

Vaughan's advice to Rohit Sharma:

Playfully, the right-handed batter implied that if the veteran visualizes himself in the Indian jersey rather than MI's team uniform, he might rediscover his touch. The 50-year-old also emphasized that Sharma's comeback will be crucial to MI's prospects of qualifying for the playoffs this year.

Cricbuzz reported Vaughan as saying, "He just has to pretend that he has got the Indian blues on and not the Mumbai blues. He is such a good player. For Mumbai to go the distance this year, he has got to get runs. He has to get his team off to flyers, he has to get back his confidence, his mojo. I think Mumbai, without Rohit Sharma firing, will not make the qualification (playoffs). He is one of those few players who can win a game on his own."

He added, "Sometimes I watch Rohit, like in the Australia Test series, and he sometimes has that persona that he is not bothered when he is there. I am sure he is not like that. He needs to find that inner motivation. If he can find that, he can be very dangerous."

The five-time IPL champion captain is under pressure to recover after registering a four-ball duck against CSK, succumbing to a delivery from Mohammed Siraj, and only managing eight runs against GT. MI's first home game of the season will take place at Wankhede Stadium on March 31 against the reigning champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
