After being ruled out of the third and final match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Kane Williamson will not be able to participate in the Test series against India. In order to guarantee a full recovery for New Zealand's Test series against England, which could offer them a chance to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Williamson has chosen not to go to India.
Williamson was anticipated to join the team halfway through the series after suffering a groin injury during the Sri Lanka tour shortly before the India series last month. Nevertheless, the Black Caps won their first-ever Test series in India while he was away, winning the first two Test matches in a row. Williamson will continue to recover from his groin injury in New Zealand as part of a cautious strategy before the first England Test, which begins at Hagley Oval on November 28.

Gary Stead, the head coach, stated in a statement, "Kane continues to show good signs but isn't quite ready to jump on a plane and join us. While things are looking promising, we think the best course of action is for him to stay in New Zealand and focus on the final part of his rehabilitation so he'll be good to go for England."
It seemed quite unlikely that New Zealand would be in the running for a position in the WTC final prior to the journey to India. They are already in the race, though, thanks to their recent spectacular victories. To finish with a PCT of 64.29%, the Kiwis must win each of their last four Test matches. They will remain in the running, but qualifying is not guaranteed. Their proportion drops to 57.14% if they fail one of those examinations, which is insufficient to qualify.
