Following the conclusion of the third ODI against New Zealand in Indore, Virat Kohli once again stole the show with a heartfelt gesture. The 37-year-old did his best to win, but all of his efforts were in vain. He produced an incredible century, his 54th ODI century. On the other hand, New Zealand was utterly dominant, and Daryl Mitchell, who struck an incredible century and was voted "Player of the Match," emerged as the team's best player. Following the game, Kohli approached the Kiwi star and gave him an autographed jersey with a touching note on it.

The gesture was made in response to both batters' outstanding performances in the series finale, which saw the visitors overcome a 0–1 deficit to win their first series here and a historic ODI series in India. As the top two run scorers of the three-match series, Mitchell (352 runs) and Kohli (240 runs) demonstrated their impact throughout the encounter.

IND vs NZ 2026 Match Moments:

At the moment, Mitchell and Kohli are the two intense rivals vying for the top spot in the ICC ODI Rankings. At the moment, Mitchell is in second place, and Virat is in first. Even after Kohli's brilliant century, India was unable to meet the lofty goal. With India at 71/4 during the chase, the top order failed, but Kohli once again showed his class by leading the innings with crucial partnerships with Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy. New Zealand won two of the three games in the ODI series. The Kiwis recovered from the crushing defeat and won the series, while India had a good first-match victory but lost steam.

Now that the ODI format is over, both teams' attention is focused on the five-match T20I series, which begins in Nagpur on January 21. Daryl Mitchell will stay in the team for the Twenty20 Internationals, but Kohli will have to wait a bit longer to play for India again because he now only plays 50-over cricket.
