In the ICC Test batting rankings, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma returned to the top five for the first time since September 2021. According to the list issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, September 11, the seasoned player is the highest-ranked Indian batter.
In the most recent rankings, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal, two of his countrymen, also climbed to Nos. 6 and 7, respectively. Beginning on Thursday, September 19, the two-match home Test series against Bangladesh will provide the troika of Rohit, Kohli, and Jaiswal with an opportunity to raise their rankings.
Rohit Sharma is the best batter in India?:
Earlier this year, during India's final Test match at home against England, Jaiswal set a number of records. Against the British, the southpaw scored 712 runs at an astounding 89 average in nine innings. Two double-hundreds were scored by Jaiswal during the series. In the meantime, Rohit further cemented his dominance by amassing 400 runs at the top of the order in nine innings at an average of 44. However, Kohli chose to withdraw from the series for private reasons.
Dhananjaya de Silva, the captain of Sri Lanka's red-ball team, rose to No. 13 in the Test batting rankings with a significant half-century against England in the first innings in the third and final Test. On the list, he is the highest-ranked batter from Sri Lanka. Pathum Nissanka and Kamindu Mendis also advanced to positions 19 and 39, respectively, during this time.
The former went up six rankings, while the latter went up 42 spots after making 64 and 127 not out to lead Sri Lanka to a historic victory at the Kennington Oval. For the first time in ten years, the tourists triumphed in a Test match held in England, although losing the series 1-2.
Joe Root, meanwhile, was unable to raise his 922 rating points. It really decreased to 899. He does, meanwhile, still top the list of batters in the game's longest format. Positioned second, Kane Williamson has the ability to surpass Root's total if he plays well in New Zealand's upcoming series against Sri Lanka.
