Urvil Patel, a wicketkeeping batsman who joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to replace Vansh Bedi, stunned the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) with his batting prowess in a few opportunities. Patel acknowledged in a recent interview that he turned down a proposal from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to join CSK.

Despite a fantastic run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he hammered two hundreds, including a 28-ball hundred, the fastest T20 ton by an Indian, Urvil remained unsold when he entered the IPL 2025 auction with a base price of INR 30 lakhs. After the massive auction, the right-handed hitter, who had previously played for the Gujarat Titans in 2023, was once more sidelined.

Urvil Patel's IPL 2025 Double Delight:

The five-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a brilliant move when they signed Urvil Patel, which ultimately changed their destiny. After winning just two of their previous three games, CSK had a respectable last stage of the game, even though they finished bottom in the points table. Power batter Urvil recently made an appearance on the Game Changers Podcast's YouTube channel, confirming the rumours that Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the eventual IPL 2025 winners, approached him initially to replace Devdutt Padikkal.

He revealed, "When I came to know about it, I was very excited because I remember there were two good news for me on the same day. I first got a call from RCB that Devdutt Padikkal might have been injured. So, they were looking for a replacement. So, they called me first, but they didn’t confirm whether they would pick me. They asked me to come for a 15-day trial."

He further added, "After one hour, I got a call from CSK. Srikanth Sir from scouting called me and said they are considering me as a replacement player. So, be ready. So, I was confused. I said, ‘Sir, RCB also called me.’ He said they were sure about my inclusion in the team. He told me to be ready and wait for BCCI’s approval. It was a very good moment for me. I remember we were on vacation, so the family was together. I remember the call was around 1 pm, and I told the family in the evening that it’s clear that I am going to CSK."

In the end, RCB acquired Mayank Agarwal to replace Padikkal, and Patel joined CSK to replace Vansh Bedi, who suffered a last-minute injury during CSK's penultimate game.
