To date, Team India has enjoyed a good ODI series against England, winning both Nagpur and Cuttack in quick succession and securing the series beforehand. The top cricket regulatory body, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), has been fretting over the fitness concerns of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah despite the team's impressive results in this home series.
After undergoing an evaluation by the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is expected to stay in the Champions Trophy squad as he prepares to start his recuperation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Early last month, during the last Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Sydney, Bumrah suffered a back injury.
This has already caused fans and analysts to wonder if the ICC cricketer of the year and the T20 World Cup player of the tournament would be healthy enough to compete in the 2025 Champions Trophy. It is noteworthy that the main event, which is set to begin on February 19, is only nine days away.
Jasprit Bumrah's Champions Trophy Fate:
Bumrah's scan results were discussed internally, according to a Times of India story. The 31-year-old will now start his rehabilitation in the coming day or two, which would include "some gym work, even light bowling." Similarly, a source close to the Indian board recently disclosed that Bumrah will shortly begin his rehabilitation, which will include some light bowling. Additionally, he stated that if there was even a one per cent possibility that the fiery pacer would be fit enough to join India's Champions Trophy side, the board was prepared to wait.
Times of India quotes a source saying, “Even if there is a 1% chance, the BCCI is likely to wait. They did the same with Hardik Pandya as they waited for close to two weeks before getting Prasidh Krishna as a replacement. Even when Shubman Gill was down with dengue, they didn't have any thoughts of looking for a replacement. Yes, those two incidents happened during the campaign but the approach with Bumrah could well be no different. This is just the deadline to submit the squad and they could approach the Event Technical Committee at a later stage to seek a replacement if he fails to regain fitness."
Although the BCCI has not yet released an official statement regarding Bumrah's injury, India is undoubtedly preparing their options for the Champions Trophy. Fast bowler Harshit Rana made his debut during the current England ODI series, and Varun Chakravarthy was also included in the squad and given his first cap.
