The Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024-25 included a variety of adrenaline-pumping contests, both on and off the field. One such meeting occurred on the fifth and final Test of the series, held at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Sam Konstas now believes it was 'possibly' his responsibility when a riled-up Jasprit Bumrah knocked Usman Khawaja out during the Sydney Test.
The incident included 19-year-old Sam Konstas and Jasprit Bumrah, the ace right-arm speedster who went on to win the Player of the Series award. Konstas got into a heated disagreement with India's lead bowler, Bumrah, in the final over of the opening day of the final and final Test. When Bumrah dismissed Khawaja two balls later, the entire Indian team gave the 19-year-old an aggressive look.
Sam Konstas reveals the truth:
In a recent conversation, Sam Konstas stated that it was his "fault". He confessed, “I didn’t get too fazed. Unfortunately, Uzi got out. He was trying to buy some time a little bit. It was probably my fault, but it happens. It’s cricket. Credit to Bumrah. He got the wicket, but obviously great performance from the team."

In both Tests, Konstas was continually in the face of the visiting Indians, and the first to break was Virat Kohli, who ended up shoulder-barging the then-debutant and receiving a 20% fine. The six-wicket win in Sydney helped Australia recapture the Border-Gavaskar Trophy championship after a decade, winning the series 3-1. India's hopes of reaching their third World Test Championship final in a row were dashed. It was a particularly frustrating tour for India, especially since they had taken the lead after winning the series opener in Perth.
The New Year's Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, commonly known as the Pink Test, is held to raise awareness about breast cancer. Glenn McGrath, a former Australian cricketer, lost his wife, Jane, to the disease. After her illness, McGrath established the McGrath Foundation in 2005.
