Jasprit Bumrah has acknowledged that he felt compelled to respect his body after experiencing 'discomfort' during the second innings of the Sydney Test. India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who led the team in the fifth and final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Sydney after regular opener Rohit Sharma 'opted out', spoke out about his back injury on Sunday.

Bumrah missed his first inning bowling on Sunday because of a back spasm he suffered on Saturday. He took several scans in the middle of the innings and even left the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) for a bit. Though India bowled Australia out for four runs less than their first innings total, the batting struggled again, being bowled out for 157. Bumrah batted but was unable to bowl afterwards. His comment came after he was named Player of the Series after taking 32 wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah updates his fans:

He said, “Little frustrating but sometimes you have to respect your body, you can’t fight your body. Disappointing, probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series. Felt a bit of discomfort during my second spell in the first innings. Felt a bit of discomfort during my second spell in the first innings."

Bumrah wanted his team to draw encouragement from the first innings when they got the majority of the Australian wickets while he was absent. However, in the fourth innings, the stand-in skipper's role was crucial, as Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj bowled nearly a T20 innings' worth of overs in their periods.

It took Australia only 45 minutes to bowl out India for 157, with the tourists adding only 16 runs to their overnight score and losing four wickets in 39.5 overs, with the unstoppable Scott Boland finishing with 6-45 and ten wickets. Following their victory, Australia will defend their World Test Championship crown against South Africa in the final at Lord's in June.
