Angelo Matthews' timed-out dismissal against Bangladesh during the 2023 World Cup was arguably the most well-known in recent memory. In the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2024), Australian all-rounder Tom O'Connell was eliminated in the most terrible way possible. In a strange instance, he was fired twice in one over. After being timed out, O'Connell was first declared out, but he was removed for a golden duck on the very next ball.

On Tuesday, December 31, in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between the Khulna Tigers and Chittagong Kings, the umpire decided to time out Chittagong Kings all-rounder Tom O'Connell because he did not make it to the crease in the allotted three minutes.

Bizarre Incident with Tom O'Connell:

The Chittagong Kings had a slow start after the Khulna Tigers set a difficult goal of 204 runs at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. During the powerplay, they lost five wickets in the first 6.1 overs of their innings. Umpires Tanvir Ahmed and Raveendra Wimalasiri gave O'Connell a time-out. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the captain of the Khulna Tigers and the best all-around player in Bangladesh, decided to bring him back. Kings captain Mohammad Mithun felt that the dismissal was valid and commended Miraz for having a huge heart.

But in a stunning display of sportsmanship, Mehidy Hasan Miraz changed his mind and motioned for O'Connell to go back to the crease. As a result, the umpires changed their minds and permitted O'Connell to bat one more time. The drama, regrettably, did not stop there. Commentators and onlookers were in shock when Mohammad Nawaz removed O'Connell on his first ball.

The Kings captain called O'Connell back, but the Khulna Tigers still dominated the game. While the Kings started their campaign with a victory, they suffered a significant defeat that will impact their confidence moving forward in the competition. In the end, they were bowled out for 166 and lost the match by 37 runs.

Khulna Tigers wicketkeeper Mahidul Islam Ankon was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding unbeaten 59 off just 22 deliveries, which was sufficient to set a lofty goal against the Kings. He was also reliable behind the stumps in the second innings.
