Jasprit Bumrah exited the field after bowling just one over in the second session of India's fifth Test against Australia at the legendary Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, January 4. The extent and nature of Bumrah's injury remain unknown. This is a significant setback for the Asian giants since Bumrah has been the best bowler in the series by far. Star Sports footage showed Bumrah leaving the field in a car and being driven to a neighbouring city hospital while dressed in training gear.
Bumrah, the team's stand-in skipper, joined the field after the lunch break but only bowled one over before handing it over to Virat Kohli. He left the field again. Abhimanyu Easwaran, a substitute fielder, replaced him on the field. He did not take the field following this, and later footage showed the ace speedster leaving the scenic venue in a car with the team doctor.

Before leaving the field, Bumrah was spotted having a quick talk with Kohli, who was probably advising him of the discomfort he was experiencing while bowling. It is reported that Bumrah is on his way to a local medical facility for a scan. However, there is no evidence of the discomfort the 31-year-old had before leaving the ground.
Kohli then took over captaincy duties. He sprang into action with quick bowling adjustments. Youngsters Prasidh Krishna and Nitish Kumar Reddy made vital breakthroughs as India bowled Australia out for 181, taking a 4-run lead. Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna, who had already dismissed Steve Smith in the opening session, added Alex Carey and Beau Webster to his tally. Australia lost their ninth wicket with a score of 166. They are currently 15 runs behind India's total from the first inning.
