India's captain, Jasprit Bumrah, dismissed Usman Khawaja on the final ball of the opening day of the fifth and final Test match in Sydney, bringing the match to a thrilling conclusion. The bowler gave Australia's opener Sam Konstas a stare as he took the wicket. Just before play ended, Bumrah and Konstas got into a furious dispute, which caused the temperature at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) to rise. Australia paid a heavy price for the argument when, in the day's last over, a furious Bumrah dismissed Khawaja for three runs just two balls later.

The drama started when Bumrah started his run-up and Australian opener Usman Khawaja signalled that he wasn't ready to take a hit by delaying his delivery. Sam Konstas, 19, joined the altercation shortly after and got into a furious argument with Bumrah. Konstas stepped in, adding gasoline to the flames, and motioned for Bumrah to stop. As the two walked toward one another in a heated conversation, Bumrah could be heard asking, "What's the problem?". The on-field umpire had to step in to defuse the atmosphere after the encounter.

Jasprit Bumrah takes revenge:

KL Rahul finished the catch at second slip after he produced a fuller-length delivery on the last ball of the over that caught Khawaja's bat by the outside edge. Rather than celebrating the wicket, Bumrah turned to face Konstas and gave him a death stare that made the already dramatic SCG match even more intense. The Indian squad erupted in a raucous celebration, but Bumrah's response caught everyone's eye when the seasoned pacer turned to look at Konstas.

India had a point to prove going into the Sydney Test after falling behind 1-2 in the series. Rohit Sharma rested during the New Year's Test, and Bumrah took over as captain. Due to an outstanding effort by Scott Boland, who took four wickets, India was bowled out for 185 at the start of the day. There was only one valuable knock, Rishabh Pant's 40. India needed a breakthrough to finish the day on a high note because Australia had started their innings under the lights.
