After another successful Test in Melbourne, where he finished with a nine-wicket match haul, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah solidified his place at the top of the ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings and set a new record for the highest rating points total ever attained by an Indian bowler. In the longest format, Bumrah concluded 2024 with 71 wickets, which put him at the top of the year's wicket-takers lists.
Bumrah has improved from his previous tied best of 904 with Ravichandran Ashwin, and he is shortlisted for both the ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year award and the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year award for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. With his 907 rating points, he currently shares 17th place with English spinner Derek Underwood from the past.
Following another successful Test in Melbourne, where he finished with a nine-wicket match haul, the Indian pace legend solidified his position at the top of the ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings and recorded the highest-ever rating points tally achieved by an Indian bowler thanks to his outstanding performances last year.
Jasprit Bumrah leads the board:
Bumrah is still a few spots away from the world's all-time top rankings. Imran Khan (922) and Muttiah Muralidaran (920) are third and fourth on the list, respectively, while England seamers Sydney Barnes (932) and George Lohmann (931), who played over a century ago, are at the top.
Another player to improve in the most recent rankings update is Australia's captain Pat Cummins, who is tied for fifth place with Glenn McGrath on that list with 914 rating points after assisting in the victory of their ICC World Test Championship series against India in Melbourne.
Cummins advances to a career-high third place in the all-rounders' list in the first weekly update of 2025, which also takes into account performances in the first Test matches between South Africa and Pakistan in Centurion and Zimbabwe and Afghanistan in Bulawayo. This improves his fifth-place ranking from August 2019.
