Karun Nair's Consistent Run-Scoring Puts Him Back on Selectors' Radar

With so many new players entering the game, the Indian squad is going through a bit of a transitional period. One of the BCCI's main issues has been the declining performance of veteran players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma; as a result, the team will need to consider some other players.

Karun Nair sent a heartfelt cosmic appeal into the emptiness via Twitter over 13 months ago. In December 2022, the post said, "Dear cricket, give me one more chance," and included a fingers-crossed emoji. The reason why the Indian batsman was benched and then not called up after achieving a remarkable triple-century against England in 2016 is still a mystery. 

The 33-year-old is back on the selectors' radar 13 months after his viral post, according to a story in The Indian Express. He scored 664 runs in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, smashing four consecutive tons to lead his new club, Vidarbha, to the semifinals.

The Hindustan Times says that several domestic players have fallen under the selection committee's notice as a result of Virat and Rohit's lack of impact in the most recent Test series. The captain of Vidarbha, Karun Nair, is one of the players mentioned in the report. After Virender Sehwag, the 33-year-old batsman became the second Indian hitter to reach a triple century in Test cricket. He played his final international match in 2017.

With 664 runs, including five hundred, Nair is now the best-run scorer in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and has been playing brilliantly lately. Since he has only been kicked out once during the competition, Nair also has an average of 664. In addition, Nair is the third batter in List A cricket to register four straight hundreds and only the second batter after Jagadeesan of Tamil Nadu to score five hundred in a single tournament.
