The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 would be held in four cities, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla announced on Sunday, January 12. This will be the third edition of the franchise league, with five teams contending for the coveted silverware: Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W), Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (RCB-W), Delhi Capital Women (DC-W), Gujarat Giants (GG-W), and UP Warriorz (UPW).
WPL 2025 is expected to begin in the first week of February. Previously, the BCCI shortlisted Lucknow and Vadodara as prospective WPL 2025 destinations. However, at the Governing Council meeting on Sunday, it was decided that the competition will take place in different sites.
WPL 2025 venues revealed:
The first two seasons of the WPL were warmly received, and people are looking forward to the following season. The 2023 edition was hosted by Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, while the second season was held in Bengaluru and New Delhi. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has planned four venues for the 2019 season.
Mr Shukla confirmed the news to Sportstar, stating that the Mumbai leg would be played at the Brabourne Stadium. He said, "It will be played across four venues. The Mumbai leg will be played at Brabourne Stadium." The large fanbases in Mumbai and Bengaluru played a role in their inclusion on the list of venues. The last time both cities hosted the WPL, the stadiums were filled. The league will use a caravan style this year, with the tournament beginning in Mumbai.
Mumbai won the inaugural season of the World Premier League in 2023, defeating the Delhi franchise. The squad, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, defeated Delhi by seven wickets to become the initial multi-team competition champions. Meg Lanning, the runner-ups' captain, won the Orange Cap, while Hayley Matthews of the victorious team took home the Purple Cap for the first time.
