In the second innings of the Boxing Day Test, the Indian team's superb bowling has placed a great deal of pressure on the Australian team. By the time of lunch on day four, the Indian team had put Australia on a 53-2 score after scoring 369 runs in the first innings. India increased their overnight total by 11 before Nitish Kumar Reddy was the final man out of the Melbourne Test match, which began the fourth day at 358-9.

However, Australia was reeling at 91-6 after Mohammed Siraj had Steve Smith caught behind at this point and Jasprit Bumrah ripped through the middle order with a triple-wicket burst.  Marnus Labuschagne appeared to be the last obstacle for the visitors as the Indian team was ahead of Australia and most of the Australian hitters were back in the dressing room.

Rohit Sharma faces criticism:

Akash Deep, who had two slips and Yashasvi Jaiswal at a fourth-slip-cum-gully, ran in to bowl at Marnus Labuschagne with the score at 99. Jaiswal had an easy chance as Labuschagne's bat dropped the ball to him. Rohit Sharma, the skipper, was forced to conceal his annoyance. In a fit of rage, he hit the air, something the commentators did not appreciate.

Michael Hussey, a former cricket player for Australia, expressed his disapproval of Rohit's response after Jaiswal missed the catch. Hussey said in his commentary, “I don’t like that reaction from the Indian skipper. I know he’s emotional and he desperately wants wickets but you’re the one that has to send the message of calm and support. No one means to drop a catch. He’ll feel bad enough as it is for putting a catch down, particularly someone like Marnus Labuschagne. It happens quickly – it’s in, it’s out. You don't need to see that as a young player.”
