At the Gabba during the third Test of the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Travis Head and Akash Deep experienced a humorous encounter. After being interrupted several times over the course of the five days by rain and poor lighting, the game concluded in a draw. With two games remaining—in Melbourne on December 26 and Sydney on January 3—the five-match series is now tied at one.
No other Indian player has managed to do what Akash Deep has done. That is to irritate Travis Head. Notably, Akash Deep stopped Nathan Lyon's ball from getting lodged in his pad. He was requested to pass the ball by Head, who was at short leg. Head was taken aback when Akash Deep nonchalantly dropped the ball in front of him rather than giving it to him. The two players then engaged in a humorous exchange during which Akash Deep instantly expressed regret for his inadvertent behaviour.

To be fair to Akash, he immediately apologized to Head. Alex Carey, an Australian batsman and wicketkeeper, was also overheard saying something to Akash, who turned around and apologized to him. After Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep shared the tenth wicket late Tuesday, India avoided the follow-on and resumed on 252-9 in response to the hosts' 445.
With three wickets in the third Test and a vital 31 in the first innings to help India avoid follow-on, Akash Deep excelled with his bowling. He and Jasprit Bumrah shared a vital 47-run partnership for the tenth wicket. To give India a target of 275 runs, Australia came out intending to score rapidly on the fifth day. They swiftly lost seven wickets before declaring at 89/7. Only 2.1 overs were played by Indian openers KL Rahul and Yashavi Jaiswal before play was halted because of poor lighting. The match ended in a draw, and the proceedings were never resumed.
